Schedule
Proposals are submitted in a two-stage process. First, initial abstract versions of the proposals
must be submitted by abstract submission deadline,
and then they
will be reviewed. If you are invited to submit for the second stage of the process,
you must submit a preliminary version of the complete document by June 1, 2014.
These documents will then be peer-reviewed. After the peer review process, final
versions of the documents as they will appear in the conference proceedings must
be submitted by July 26, 2014.
- Worksop Proposals submitted for Thursday's Workshops by March 28, 2014
- Abstracts submitted for Thursday and Friday paper submissions extended to May 18, 2014
- Abstracts reviewed and authors notified by May 5, 2014
- Draft versions of the conference submissions due for Peer-review by June 1, 2014
- Paper review comments returned by July 10, 2014
- Final proceedings version of publications due by July 26, 2014
- Conference August 7 - 8, 2014
What May You Submit?
Proposals for participation in the 2014 Conference can be submitted in the following
three venues:
- Proposals for the Thursday Workshops - Note Workshop proposals must be submitted
by March 28
- Full Papers: For completed projects for the Thursday and Friday Sessions, or
- Extended Abstracts: For projects either just started or projects that are planned
to begin soon, also for the Thursday and Friday Sessions
We are no longer accepting new abstracts but authors of approved abstracts may now submit their papers
Information on each of these is provided in the following sections.
Topics of Interest
Submission site is
open for new submissions.
You can either select an area of Engineering Education, Engineering Technology Education
or other related area. The topic areas are to allow attendees to develop a network
of people with common interests,
- Various approaches and strategies to teaching engineering/science courses appropriate
for the first year, both present and future
- Advances in Engineering Education Research as it applies to the first year experience,
- Impact of K-12 education on our students
- Understand today's students and how they are different from those a decade or two
ago
- How to improve the transition for students either from high school or transfer students
- How does this present population of students impact the Introduction to Engineering
Courses offered around the country
- The role of Advising in the first year and how it impacts the students
- Effective uses of peer mentoring and/or student organizations
- Current technologies and their impact/use for first year students
- Student development models and what best procedures can be used to promote the professional
development of the first year student
- Diversity in engineering, including the discussion of program that impact the pipeline
into the K-12 area
- Use of Internet communication tools (e-mail, social networks, blogs, wikis, etc.)
to improve the academic performance and retention of first-year students
- Living and Learning communities both in a residential mode and peer mentoring in
small group settings
- Integration of both business principles and the liberal arts to the curriculum
- Service Learning in the Freshman year and beyond
- Other topics that address issues in education

Thursday and/or Friday Full Paper Submission Requirements
- The Full paper submission type is for completed work, or work
at a phase where actual results are available.
- Authors must submit an electronic abstract of no more than 500 words, via the 2014
Web page by the submission deadline.
- The author must submit: author's name, abstract title, author's affiliation, phone
number, fax number, and e-mail address.
- Each abstract should be between 300 and 500 words in length.
- One author from each paper is expected to register for and attend the conference.
The registered author can present more than one paper.
- Final papers will be limited to six pages, not including references or Author Bios.

- Full papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers. The purpose of the
review will be to check for completeness and accuracy of the work.

- Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection of their abstract by May 5,
2014.
- If your abstract is accepted, papers are due for peer review by June 1, 2014.
- Authors will be notified of peer review results by July 10, 2014.
- Modified papers will be due by July 26, 2014.

Thursday and/or Friday Extended Abstracts Submission Requirements
- The Extended Abstract submission type is for work that is still
in the process of study and/or implementation. That is the work is not complete,
thus, results may not be available.
- Authors must submit an electronic abstract, via the 2014 Web page by the submission
deadline.
- The author must submit: author's name, abstract title, author's affiliation, phone
number, fax number, and e-mail address.
- Each abstract should be between 300 and 500 words in length.
- One author from each paper is expected to register for and attend the conference.
The registered author can present more than one paper.
- Final papers will be limited to three pages, not including references or Author
Bios. See the paper guidelines for font and spacing requirements.
- Extended Abstract papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers. The
purpose of the review will be to provide the author with feedback to consider in
their on going research.

Thursday Workshop Submission Requirements
- The Thursday Workshop submission type is for work that promises
to be both informative and also provide an interactive format that encourages participation
by the attendees.
- We hope to engage the participants in a number of working sessions that will enable
us to understand how we might make engineering a more viable option as a field of
study and career opportunity than it currently seems. We hope the proposed workshop
can help the attendees begin to understand how to solve the drop in enrollments
in engineering by providing an interactive workshop that is related to the topics
listed in the call for papers.
- The author must submit: author's name, proposed workshop title, author's affiliation,
phone number, fax number, and e-mail address.
- Each proposed workshop should be between 800 and 1500 words in length.
- All workshop facilitators must register for and attend the conference.
- Final workshop description is not limited to any page restriction. See the paper
guidelines for font and spacing requirements.
- Workshop proposals will be peer-reviewed by the program committee.

- Proposals dealine extended to March 28, 2014.
- Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection of their workshop by April 15,
2014.
- If your proposal is accepted, a modified proposal must be submitted for listing
on the web site.
